Ice Storm on a tree

The extended forecast in the 2020 Canadian edition of the Farmers’ Almanac calls for “freezing, frigid and frosty” conditions for areas east of the Rockies clear through to Quebec and the Maritimes. The coldest outbreak of the season is expected to come during the last week of January and beginning of February, as Arctic air drops temperatures to as low as -40 C over the Prairies, the journal’s editors warn. And if you’re wondering how the almanac’s forecasts pan out, you’ll want to follow weather columnist Daniel Bezte in the Manitoba Co-operator and Alberta Farmer Express. Bezte regularly compares forecasts from the almanacs, Environment Canada and other sources — himself included — against the actual conditions those provinces have seen.
